I could not in a million years have said all of the above so well. It conveys my limited knowledge of Emin's work most eloquently. I am studying an art course and was recommended to research Tracey Emin and told that she has done the most amazing embroidery pieces. If amazing means outlandish, then we're onto a winner, which apparently Tracey is! I quite like some of her appliqué blankets, until I look closer and find what I think of as obscenities. However, from a distance I like the colours and aesthetic arrangement of the pieces of fabric. It will help in my own Bedsheet Project, while I consider the overall image. Obviously if Tracey reads this comment, then I am sure she will more likely find it amusing than insulting. Good for her. It is good that generally we still have the freedom to do our own thing, and I don't have to like it or look at it again. It is my choice.
Thanks Kirsty

I've linked to this post because it says - more elegantly and eloquently- what I'm trying to say on my blog. Thanks for going to the show so that the rest of us don't have to!

a really interesting review - and I agree with the shallowness and desire for more depth - I find this in a lot of 'conceptual' art - I'm left thinking well ok, I got the idea in 2 seconds flat, I don't find it particularly interesting and now what?????

other stuff like Gormley's Field are incredibly powerful when seen IRL
