In May of 2009 I started work on a new obsessive project – an apron entirely covered in hand-sewn sequins.

The cream sequins were chosen to match the colour of the apron, I want the piece to be subtle. Well, as subtle as it’s possible to be when using sequins!

On this left half of this image you can see the sequins that I originally decided to use. However, after I’d sewn that nice big test patch I discovered that those particular sequins had been discontinued. I was gutted at the time but now I’m glad because I think the cream sequins are better for this piece.

Progress on this piece is slow but steady. I try to do an hour on it every day, which is about all I can manage before my hands give out.

Here’s a little video about the process of sewing the apron.
P.S. It has the chickens in it.

You want to hear the kicker? This is only the first apron in a triptych! I’m hoping the second two, which won’t feature sequins, will be quicker but I always hope that & it’s hardly ever true. Ah, the life of an obsessive artist…
