Kirsty - sorry to hear about the tooth - that's really not what you need just before you travel. I hope you're feeling better by now.

You may not be aware of my second blog <a href="http://travelsketch.blogspot.com/" rel="nofollow">"Travels with a Sketchbook in.....</a> but I've started posting about <a href="http://travelsketch.blogspot.com/2008/02/travels-with-sketchbook-in-australia.html" rel="nofollow">my trip to Australia</a> 11 years ago and my blog posts are loaded with links which might be useful to you - and it also means hopefully they'll be accessible to you while in Sydney

Top 5 recommendations:
1) get a window seat on the left (I think) and hence get a great view of the plane coming into land over the top of Sydney - see last Friday's post for the view
2) do a Coffee Cruise with the ferries around the harbour - they take you out to the heads and back and you get great views of the whole of the harbour
3) walk around the perimeter of the Botanic Gardens and take great photos of the Opera house and bridge
4) visit the New South Wales Art Gallery - see if you can see their Whistler collection
5) eat fish and chips on Balmoral Beach
...and try and visit the Darling Harbour fish market - that's the one I missed out on due to minding a sleepy 3 year old in the car!

Hope your mouth has healed & is pain-free in time for your Australia trip - have a great time.

Enjoying your blog a great deal after arriving upon it by chance (via a mention on someone else's), I especially love the Diary Project, which is a wonderful idea & an inspiration too.

Hi Kristy,
I hope you have a lovely trip to Australia and the flight isn't too bad. I'm a subscriber to your blog from the USA who has just reccently moved to Sydney. I'd offer to show you around, but I'm afriad I'm still learning myself. :) If you need anything while you are here or have any questions, I'd be more than happy to help.

The beaches are beautiful and the weather is good, though we have had some big rains blow through. In Sydney itself, give yourself plenty of time for the botanical garden (and be sure to take a bottle of water, sunscreen and a hat in addition to your sketchbook). The gardens are huge, especially if you stop to see the flowers. If you go to the zoo, take the tram ride (like a ski lift) as it offers a great view of Sydney. In Manly where you are staying -try the ice cream at the wharf. :)

Cheers and have safe travels.
