Bonfire

The Wonderful Zoƫ was here all weekend helping me clear up the garden. I've been very exhausted and unwell this last week, so she did most of it and I pottered around slowly and directed operations.

On the Saturday night we had a bonfire, partly to celebrate the Spring Equinox but also to get rid of a pile of old wood that we'd been collecting up for months during our various declutterings.

I chopped back the huge rosemary bush, so we had piles of fresh branches to burn...

...and they sent up plumes of aromatic smoke.

There's something so primal and satisfying about a fire...

...I liked the way it was constantly moving, although it made it hard to photograph.

It was a very magical evening.

  1. ah lovely! I admit I'm afraid of fire. Water person here. When I had a bonfire in the allotment one friend chopped bits, the other friend added them to the fire and spurred it on, I kept going around the edges with a bucket of water. ;)

Yours must have smelled wonderful from the rosemary!

  3. @Tina: I love water too but I've always been drawn to fire. I sometimes think that I'm an artist just so that I can play with things. Sometimes it feels as though I haven't really moved on from the mud pies of my childhood!

@Kim: Thanks for your kind words.

@Virginia: yes the first one is my favourite too.

@ Kristen: the rosemary didn't smell as strongly as I thought it might but it was still lovely.
