I woke this morning thinking of Australia and was inspired to put together another photo essay (you poor people are going to be seeing my holiday photos for months to come!) It's been a little grey in Bristol over the last few days, so some hot tropical colour is just the thing to keep me dreaming of our own summer flowers still to come.

Edited to add: Erin left the following comment with a few names. "I recognize a few of these from florida and thought you might want to know names. The first is a bottle brush, the fifth looks like perhaps bird of paradise and the last is a canna lily."

Beautiful! Thank you for helping to alleviate the grey in Portland, too!

mmmmmmm, those are not just warm colors, they are sizzling -- I can feel the heat coming off the screen!
Beautiful photography, makes me feel like I was there.
And Portland has been rainy the last couple of days, but it was melting hot just before that. I love when spring can't make up it's mind.

I'm glad you liked them, Sister Diane. I always think that Portland and Bristol sound quite similar, West Coast friends who've visited us often see a resemblance.

Thanks Cathy, just editing them made me miss Australia, it was such an incredible place.
We've had similar weather in Britain, last week was hot and sunny but this week has been cooler and cloudier.

Now if you could just run a bit of audio behind those gorgeous photos of all the ca-RA-zy bird sounds I'd feel like I was back in Oz!

Sadly I wasn't able to tape any of the sounds of Australia but you're right about those crazy bird noises, they were just insane.

lovely photos. I recognize a few of these from florida and thought you might want to know names. The first is a bottle brush, the fifth looks like perhaps bird of paradise and the last is a canna lily.
It has been in the 90's Fahrenheit here and we've been wishing for some rain. It's going to be a hot dry summer I think.

your photos of flowers are phenomenal. What camera do you use may I ask?
And your art otherwise is awesome as well.
Love the red thread drawing. Unique.

Thanks for your kind words, Lynn. The camera I was using in Australia was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01 but I've since switched to a Sony DSC-H3, which I like much more.
